Personalized horoscope (4 ingredients + 4 steps)

What if tech could help us be our ideal self?

From want → be. Today tech give us what we think we want want. what if tech could help in reminding and guiding us in what we want to be?

Aligned with the sentiment of my future-self telling I suck, I thought I could build a prototype on crafting personalized horoscopes (based on my zodiac sign aligned towards a long term goal).

Ingredients (4)

Steps (4)

1: Setup an account with Zapier. Zaps are simple macros that get executed based on trigger and then they perform given actions.

2: Create a new Zap. Mine looks like the screenshots below– Zap has excellent documentation (kudos to the team).

3: Test it! Here’s how the form looks like

4: Output in Google Docs. Need to work on the formatting.

Here’s my horoscope (sign Gemini, goal: make an impact in the world)

  1. Use your communication skills: As a Gemini, you are known for being a strong communicator. Use your verbal and written skills to express your opinions and ideas that can help make an impact in the world

  2. Embrace your adaptability: Geminis are known to be adaptable and flexible. Embrace this quality to adapt to changing environments and situations while pursuing your passion for making a difference

  3. Focus on meaningful connections: Geminis value social connections and networking. Use your connections to create meaningful relationships and collaborations that can help you make an impact on the causes you're passionate about.

General → Great

What this simple prototype shows is how we can translate general short term content into something that has higher resonance, something with a stronger purpose to people- something that can guide us where we want to go. Something that leans into my strengths (albeit high level) but it’s a blueprint.

What if we can use technology to align us to what we ideally want to become?

Today technology give us what we think we want want based on what’s visible to us. I’m bored, show me funny memes of human disfunction. Lol, ok next, lol, ok next. Meh. ok.

Where I believe we need help is on longer commitments. Those commitments that require sustained focus to achieve accretive and compounding effects. These are hard af– but the rewards are meaningful. What if technology played a role there? What if we get a little note, everyday, reminding us what we really want, remind us how to go about it (our strengths) and then offer a mechanism to measure it, to make it tangible. That’s a topic for another post and prototype.
